Payday Loan Bill Passes Senate Committee
With support from a number of advocates, lead by the Monsignor John Egan Campaign for Payday Loan Reform, SB1993 passed out of the Senate Financial Institutions Committee on March 5th. Committee members warned the payday loan industry that they intend to close the loophole and end the predatory practices of payday lenders. Negotiations will continue with the payday loan industry to work on a compromise; however, the sponsor continues to move the legislation.
