State Reforms on Credit Card Marketing to Students on the Horizon?

A second version of the Credit Card Marketing Act of 2009 (HB2352) has begun moving in the Illinois General Assembly with only a few weeks left in the 2009 session. The Senate version of this bill died in the House Rules Committee. Pushed by advocated and the Illinois State Treasurer, the Act would require disclosure of agreements between credit card companies and institutions of higher education, prohibit the selling of students’ personal information in credit card solicitation, and limit credit card companies’ ability to provide incentives to students for applying for a card.
