Endorsement FAQ
What does it mean to be an official supporter of Children’s Savings Accounts?
By becoming an official supporter of CSAs, you are publicly stating you believe children’s savings accounts are a wise investment in helping Illinois children and families learn to save and build assets for a brighter future. In addition, you are stating that you agree that CSAs should include the following principles:
- Inclusive so that all children can participate
- Seeded with an initial deposit so it creates a concrete asset at the onset
- Progressive in structure, providing higher initial deposits and/or matching funds for savings deposited by lower-income families
- Simple so that investment decisions are limited and easily understood
- Linked to age-appropriate financial education to build savings and investment skills
- Nondiscriminatory to families receiving public benefits
- Protected from use until the child is at least 18
What does the coalition do with my name and contact information?
Supporters’ names are added to the official supporter list to illustrate the growing asset building movement in Illinois. The list is accessible on IABG’s website and posted on the back of fact sheets. Your contact information will never be shared with any other organization and you may request to be removed from the list at any time.
Do supporters have any responsibilities?
A supporter does not have to commit to any particular activity. Of course, if interested, there are a variety of ways for supporters to engage in the CSA campaign. The CSA endorsement form allows you to indicate interest in receiving different types of information. Individuals are encouraged to add their name to IABG’s e-mail distribution list so they can find out about the latest activities and opportunities to act on important issues impacting CSAs and asset building.
How can I encourage others to become official supporters?
Send an e-mail to your friends and colleagues about the importance of CSAs with a link to the IABG website telling them to click on the CSA Campaign tab. You can also pass out information on CSAs at meetings you may be attending at your church, in your community or at work.
